In this 19th book of the series, Joe is delighted to have his job back and a new home to boot, courtesy of the Game and Fish Department. And he’s just happy to get up in the morning, put on his uniform, and drive into the mountains of his district to record wildlife sightings and keep the hunters and fishermen in line.
Unfortunately it turns out that a callous, mysterious man in an isolated, well-fortified enclave is using a drone to drive elk and deer herds to their death, and that’s just the tip of a long, nasty iceberg.
Joe teams up with a fellow game warden in a nearby district, Katelyn Hamm, to stop the drone operator’s cruel and illegal activities, and before they know it they’re embroiled in a convoluted nightmare involving the FBI, the U.S. Justice Department, and a deadly team of assassins called the Wolf Pack, working on behalf of the Sinaloa cartel.
Joe’s enigmatic friend Nate Romanowski, a falconer with a Special Forces background, and his savvy business partner and girlfriend Liv Brannon risk their lives to assist, and in the bullet-zipping encounters that ensue there’s no telling who’s going to make it out alive…
C. J. Box’s Joe Pickett novels are all thrilling and satisfying to the core, but this may be the best one yet.
The plot involving the Sinaloa cartel is timely and fascinating. And female Wolf Pack assassin Abriella, as seductive and deadly as they come, leaps off the page unforgettably.
Joe Pickett is as sweetly loyal to friends and family and courageous as ever. While Nate’s come a long way in his personal relationships and we really feel for him and his partner Liv when they put absolutely everything – not just their own lives – on the line. And those who don’t make it out alive take big chunks of our own hearts with them.
Whether you’re already a C. J. Box addict, or about to become one… take my advice and don’t miss WOLF PACK!
